How to care for hand-painted wood decor
To care for hand-painted wood decor, dust it with a soft dry cloth, wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and dry it right away, keep it out of direct rain and strong sun, and store seasonal pieces wrapped in a dry, temperature-stable place. Never soak it or use harsh cleaners.
Everyday cleaning
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth or a clean paintbrush for small details.
- For marks, use a cloth that is only barely damp, then dry the piece immediately.
- Avoid household cleaners, alcohol and abrasive pads — they can dull or lift paint.
Can wooden signs go outside?
Our pieces are designed for indoor use and covered front doors or porches. Signs described as weather protected have a clear coat that helps them hold up by a door, but no painted wood should sit in direct rain, standing water or all-day summer sun. If a sign gets wet, wipe it dry and let it dry fully indoors.
Storing seasonal decor
- Wrap pieces in tissue paper or bubble wrap so painted faces do not rub together.
- Store them flat in a box, with heavier pieces on the bottom.
- Keep boxes in a dry closet or under a bed — not a damp basement or a hot attic, where swings in temperature and humidity can crack paint.
Hangers and small accents
Hang pieces by their wire, ribbon or grapevine hanger rather than by attached accents. If a small accent loosens, a dab of wood glue fixes it. Something arrived damaged? Contact us within 7 days and we will make it right.
